Mission Statement
Central Island Bird Club's mission is
- To promote the breeding; keeping in captivity and exhibition of all species of cage birds.
- To establish contact between breeders and fanciers and to promote interest in the hobby to the general public.
- To collect information that may assist in the scientific knowledge of aviculture through both the exchange of ideas and the publication of a newsletter.
- To reward outstanding merit with marks of recognition.
- To make availability of the purchase of bands from the AACC as we are an affiliated club.
To meet these purposes the club holds;
- Annual Bird Show with awards, ribbons, and prizes.
- Baby Bird Show with awards for the current year baby birds.
- Spring Auction.
- Meetings the 2nd Sunday of each month for members to discuss business and learn about different birds, breeding methods, housing & aviaries, showing, training and many other bird related information.
- Publication of a members manual with names, addresses & birds.
- Monthly publication of a newsletter sent to every member with all the news and upcoming events along with information on birds, items for sale, upcoming events etc.
- Provide information on the keeping, feeding, breeding and care of cage birds including correct feeding & diets of many species along with live displays where allowed.
- A summer excursion to one of the natural wonders of the area if possible,to exchange ideas on all areas of aviculture.
- Adoption of a wild birds at the North Island Recovery Centre in memory of club members who have passed away.
Central Island Bird Club members have a lot of fun talking bird talk at all our meetings and gatherings, like our annual Christmas party & summer BBQ.
